The project, recently premiered in Ladysmith WI, is a full-scale opera dramatizing events from Ladysmith's own turn-of-the-19th-century history. If you missed this, follow the link to find out more

The Crane Family

As long ago as we can read about the history of the arts, visual art and music have worked hand in hand to express attitudes, feelings of beauty, appreciation, worship. Even the words with which we artists who work in these fields try to express verbally what we are better prepared to show you  – even in the vocabulary we use, we borrow from each other, speaking of themes, motifs, coloration. So Studio di Canto is especially delighted to be able to host an on-going display of the works of two artists who work with paint rather than melodic lines.

Coming to us in April will be wildlife artist Patrick Shea. Mr. Shea has always been a keen observer and depictor of all those non-human creatures who share our world. He comes from the time-honored tradition of the American naturalist-painters like Audubon and Wisconsin's own Gromme. His inspired draftsmanship is informed by his careful study and observation of his subjects and his passion for their welfare. He studied art at Madison Area Technical College, but he went beyond that by apprenticing to Belle Goebel, a watercolor landscape painter. There are many artists who can render every feather of a bird - Patrick wanted to make paintings of the bird, not diagrams of its plumage – the bird or animal in its environment so you could share his own reverence and delight at coming across it in the swamp or on your backyard fence. I think he has succeeded!
In August Madison watercolorist Belle Goebel will also be with Patrick Shea at Studio di Canto. She is best known, perhaps, for her evocative landscapes of the Irish coast, for old and weathered farms, and any building which has acquired the marks of character and age. Thank you Patrick and Belle for addding another layer of artistry to the Studio.

There willl be information about the artists in the waiting areas soon.
